چکیده

Scanned-energy mode photoelectron diffraction (PhD), using O 1s photoemission, together with multiple-scattering simulations, have been used to investigate the structure of the hydroxyl species, OH, adsorbed on a V2O3(0001) surface. Surface OH species were obtained by two alternative methods; reaction with molecular water and exposure to atomic H resulted in closely similar PhD spectra. Both qualitative assessment and the results of multiple scattering calculations are consistent with a model in which only the O atoms of outermost layer of the oxide surface are hydroxylated. Ordered binary oxide films of V2O3„0001... on Al2O3

Ordered binary oxide films of vanadium oxide have been prepared on an aluminum oxide film supported on Mo~110! under ultrahigh vacuum conditions and characterized by various surface analytical techniques. Auger electron spectroscopy, low energy electron diffraction, high-resolution electron loss spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and ion scattering spectroscopy indicate that the van...

Reactivity of V2O3(0001) surfaces: molecular vs dissociative adsorption of water.

The adsorption of water on V2O3(0001) surfaces has been investigated by thermal desorption spectroscopy, high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy with use of synchrotron radiation. The V2O3(0001) surfaces have been generated in epitaxial thin film form on a Rh(111) substrate with three different surface terminations according to the particular prep...

The local structure of SO2 and SO3 on Ni(111): a scanned-energy mode photoelectron diffraction study

O 1s and S 2p scanned-energy mode photoelectron diffraction (PhD) data, combined with multiple-scattering simulations, have been used to determine the local adsorption geometry of the SO2 and SO3 species on a Ni(111) surface. For SO2, the application of reasonable constraints on the molecular conformation used in the simulations leads to the conclusion that the molecule is centred over hollow s...

The Reactive Chemisorption of Carbon Dioxide at Mg(100) Surface

X-ray photoelectron and electron energy loss spectroscopic (XPS-EELS) studies reveal that the following species are present when a mixture of CO2 and water vapour is exposed to the clean Mg(100) surface at 110K: CO3(a), C(a) CH(a), OH(a). The reactive chemisorptions of CO2 and H2O vapour coadsorbed on a Mg surface ...

A structural study of a C3H3 species coadsorbed with CO on Pd(111)

The combination of chemical-state-specific C 1s scanned-energy mode photoelectron diffraction (PhD) and O K-edge near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) has been used to determine the local adsorption geometry of the coadsorbed C3H3 and CO species formed on Pd(111) by dissociation of molecular furan. CO is found to adopt the same geometry as in the Pd(111)c(4x2)-CO phase, occupying t...
